The hope never desperate | 希望,是從絕望開始出發
1999年的去, 2000年的來。
從聆聽到創作音樂,是一種生活的轉變。尤如OK COMPUTER 對千禧來臨的預警一樣,蒼白與無力填滿了可期望的未來。在自由解放前,人生只是一場虛度,而選擇去聆聽世界的各類異聲,則是對人生命運與常態的一場自我反動。

在不斷的反問下,我找到了一張冰島專輯 Sigur Ros -Ágætis byrjun
Sig Ros - Ágætis byrjun 1999
Ágætis byrjun 意為 A Good Beginning,一個美好的開始。該專輯的藝術設計,是由GottiBernhöft 用圓珠筆繪畫而成。而專輯封面上亦寫有這樣的文字:「Éggaf ykkur von semvarðaðvonbrigðum…þettaerágætisbyrjun」,意思是「我給了你希望,卻成為失望…是一個好的開始」。
靜謐與神秘,不沾凡塵,聽著Sigur Ros的音樂,就像身處於冰島的草原上,總滲透著一種朦朧的迷茫感,在極光下把生命與死亡都一同封進冰川,然後用身體去體會時間流逝時所帶來的變化。
1944年,冰島共和國成立。為自由而戰的獨立精神,成為了冰島藝術創作的根基。40多年過後,Bad Taste Ltd (Smekkleysa) 成立,名字改自於 Pablo Picasso 的宣言,「好品味和節儉是創造力的敵人」。作為冰島最重要的唱片公司之一,旗下有喚醒了一個時代的The Sugarcubes / Bjork。Bad Taste Ltd 作為冰島的前衛音樂的主要推動者,不僅投入於音樂發行,還同時出版詩集,短片,賀卡和冰島的禮品等等。
如何在音樂中表達自己的追求,他們的品牌宣言更像是對完美精神的追逐:
World Domination or Death (Excerpts from the BadTaste Manifesto)
1. As "good taste" and "financial restraint" are the main enemies of creativity and well-being, Bad Taste will work concertedly against anything that can be categorized as good taste or financial restraint.
2.In the battle against the above (good taste and so forth), Bad Taste will use all thinkable and unthinkable approaches, such as stuffing things in, tearing them out, tasteless ads and announcements, and distribution and sale of common junk and leftovers.
3.Bad Taste will present certificates of acknowledgement to those individuals or groups who excel in tastelessness and waste.
4.Bad Taste shall deal with its members with warmth and style, and concentrate on publishing or performing their works, what ever they are: records, novels, poems, art, clothing, family entertainment, or revolution and any kind of cleaning activity.
5.Members shall look at Bad Taste as an employment centre for themselves and their close ones, and behave with that in mind.
6.Members shall always be clear about their importance to the future, and pledge to think in centuries as well as seconds. In accordance with this, members won’t worry about delays caused by bureacracy and centralisation.
7.Bad Taste shall aim at opening as soon as possible a restaurant and/or nightclub named the Pit of Filth. Bad Taste will also in the future establish a propaganda radio station, which will concentrate on tasteless music and drivel.
8.Bad Taste will concentrate on a few actions under various names, such as the Devil Heads, the Sugarcubes, Spermi and so forth. Only certified members of Bad Taste will be allowed to use those names in the battle for the takeover of all tastelessness.
9.All profit from publishing and performance shall be paid out to members immediately, in either rock-hard coins or fresh cash. Bad Taste will do its very best to use neither checkbooks nor credit cards.
1992年The Sugarcubes與Bad Taste Ltd. 分道揚鑣,再之後就簽下了剛成立的 Sigur Ros,並於1994年正式出道。繼Von之後,再推出了第二張專輯 Ágætis byrjun,從中亦讓我見識到一個文化的內在是如何體現於外,縱使人類的未來可能根本就沒有未來,冰島的藝術家又是如何繼續以獨立精神的意志去推動著世界新思潮的發展。
從Ágætis byrjun的專輯之中,我能一再體會到音樂是如何超越自身感受,到達「存在」的更深之處。從「無」發出聲響穿透至更遠的「虛空」中,相互間存在的某種呼應,會有「原來我就在這裡」觸動。這種與自身直覺性的呼應,也是創作者的起點。無論處於藝術、音樂還是設計,應保持對自身本源最深層的追索與瞭解。也許多年以來對「本」的設計信念也是啓蒙於此,然後再歷經18年的沈澱以後,才孕育成至今的Frustum Design 的價值觀念。
如果絕望已來到,我們就從這裡開始出發,而「希望」不再是從他人的手中所給予的。
